Description
Due to the Evaporator’s complex configuration (distinct shell-side and tube-side components), which could not be modeled as a single unit in commercial tools such as PV Elite or Compress, the analysis was performed through three complementary models: the full shell (including tube bundle weight), the tube bundle with its corresponding shell section, and the top head alone for lifting lug verification. Results confirmed no design deficiencies and stress levels within code allowables. As tube-side and shell-side design temperatures coincide (140°C), an expansion joint was found not to be required in principle, though a detailed thermal analysis is recommended to confirm this given the equipment’s internal configuration — showcasing the team’s ability to solve complex, non-standard equipment verification challenges beyond the scope of off-the-shelf software.
