Description
Engineering calculation of a new butane storage sphere, designed and manufactured to replicate an existing sphere, with dimensions and thicknesses taken from the existing unit as the basis for verification. The mechanical calculation, developed under ASME Section VIII Division 2, confirmed that the proposed configuration, thicknesses, and materials present no design deficiencies, with all components remaining within code allowable stress limits. Beyond verifying the original thicknesses, a thickness optimization study was performed for the spherical shell. A dedicated FEA study was also carried out for the critical leg to shell connection zone, following ASME Section VIII Division 2, Part 5, confirming the structural adequacy of this key support region while the rest of the equipment was verified through the standard mechanical calculation, delivering a comprehensive, code compliant design package for this critical storage asset supporting the client’s new export logistics.
